Liverpool To Rival Manchester United For Italian Defender

Liverpool hone in on United interest.

Liverpool are the latest club to show an interest in Italian international defender, Angelo Ogbonna, according to talkSPORT.

The Torino stopper has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United this summer whilst Arsenal have also expressed an interest in a move for the player.

However, it is Liverpool who are now in poll position to land him as they look to hijack United’s move and bring him to Anfield.

Brendan Rodgers is set to shake up his defence ahead of next season with veteran Jamie Carragher hanging up his boots and there are now question marks over the future of Martin Skrtel. The Slovakian international is rumoured to be on his way out of the club after a chronic dip in form has seen him lose his place in the starting line up.

With Rodgers’ emphasis on young and exciting talent since taking the reigns at Liverpool, Ogbonna, who is 24, seems to fit the bill perfectly. It was believed, though, that he was set to raid his former club, Swansea, for Welsh international captain, Ashley Williams. The speculation linking the two is still there but Arsenal are also said to be keen to bring the 28-year-old to North London.
