Barca could pounce for want-away United star.
Barcelona are the latest club to be linked with a move for unsettled Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.
According to the Daily Express, the Spanish press are tipping Barca to make a move for the England international, who has also been linked strongly with big-spending PSG.
It looks increasingly unlikely that the 27-year-old will stay at Old Trafford, where he has been undervalued this season. Despite playing as the main striker and scoring an impressive 35 goals in the previous campaign, Sir Alex Ferguson chose to sign Robin van Persie from Arsenal, which has led to Rooney playing second fiddle to the Dutchman, often filling in on the wing or in midfield.
But if Rooney has failed to establish himself at United, it’s hard to see how he would possibly displace Lionel Messi at Barcelona. Still, the Catalan giants might see him as an improvement on the aging David Villa, who has struggled with injuries this season.
Rooney himself has expressed his admiration for Barca duo Messi and Andres Iniesta, so would probably jump at the chance to join them at the Nou Camp, especially if he finds himself further down the pecking order at United, who have been linked with Atletico Madrid hitman Falcao.
