Nou Camp side to make big money offer for Stamford Bridge favourite.
Barcelona are ready to meet Chelsea’s £40m valuation of Brazilian international David Luiz according to the Daily Mail.
The Catalan side have shown interest in the 26 year old in the past but are now ready to make a significant formal offer for the former Benfica man.
Barcelona may well be keen to strengthen their defence this summer though David Luiz has saved his best displays for matches where he’s been used in a defensive midfield role and put in another quality shift in the position as Chelsea defeated FC Basel in the Europa League second leg clash on Thursday night.
Luiz has become something of a fan favourite since arriving at Stamford Bridge in January 2011 and already has 102 appearances to his name.
Barcelona are apparently confident they can lure Luiz to the Nou Camp and will look to make the most of the uncertainty at the club who still have no permanent manager in place to take over from Rafa Benitez this summer.
The La Liga side will note that Chelsea have not made up ground in the Premier League title race during the period David Luiz has been at the West London club and will look to finance the move by offloading a number of their under-performing players this summer.
Though Barcelona are set to wrestle back their La Liga title from Real Madrid Tito Vilanova is said to be keen on re-shuffling his squad ahead of major additions during the summer transfer window.
