Nou Camp side chase Etihad Stadium centre-back.
Barcelona have launched a £20m bid for Man City skipper Vincent Kompany as Tito Vilanova looks to strengthen his Nou Camp defence.
The Daily Mirror claim that Vilanova had seen advances for PSG defender Thiago Silva hit a brick wall and has therefore switch interest to Belgian international Kompany.
For all their attacking verve Barcelona do not possess a great many central defenders, indeed aside from Gerard Pique and veteran Gerard Pique the options at the back are fairly thin on the ground with the likes of Javier Mascherano having to fill in on occasion. Though there are some young talents coming through La Masia, the most advanced of which being Marc Bartra, the Barcelona boss is clearly keen to bring in an experienced defender this summer.
Kompany is said to have fallen out with Roberto Mancini towards the end of the last campaign, supposedly due to his decision to represent his country when the Man City manager insisted he wasn’t fully fit, but now that the Italian has been axed it will be interesting to see if the 27 year old pushes for a move to Barcelona.
The former Hamburg man has been a key member of the Man City squad since his arrival in August 2008 and the Premier League side will not allow Kompany to leave without a fight.
Kompany has amassed 200 appearances for Man City since his £6m move.
