Madrid side target Benteke.
Atletico Madrid are reportedly lining up Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke as a replacement for Radamel Falcao as he prepares to move on this summer, according to talkSPORT.
The Colombian ace is set to leave the Vicente Calderon this summer with a number of big sides interested in his signature, and Atletico have already begun planning for life without him as they line up a number of potential replacements.
And one of those replacements in the impressive Villa striker who bagged 23 goals for the Midlands side this season.
Benteke joined Villa from Belgian side Racing Genk last summer in a bargain deal worth just £7 million and the club now face a battle to hold onto him as several top sides, including Spurs and Borussia Dortmund, are interested in making a move.
Spanish newspaper AS claims that the club have made contact with Benteke’s agent, who apparently attended last week’s Copa del Rey final as a guest of Atletico, who beat Real Madrid 2-1 after extra time.
However, Villa aren’t prepared to let him go without a fight and manager Paul Lambert has already begun negotiations to tie him to the club on a longer, more lucrative contract.
He will also be worth considerably more than the £7 million Villa payed for him as he still has three years to run on his current deal.
