Old Trafford side make contact over move for Spanish midfielder.
Manchester United have begun the first steps of what would be a sensational return to the Premier League for Cesc Fabregas according to ESPN.
The Spanish midfielder moved to Barcelona from Arsenal in a huge £35 million deal in 2011. Fabregas was captain of the Gunners at the time and is still much loved by the club’s fans.
But that may not last much longer should Fabregas return to English shores to pull on the red shirt of Arsenal’s bitter rivals United.
That move came a step closer after United made initial contact with the Catalan giants over a potential move.
New United boss David Moyes is keen to put his own stamp on the team having taken over from the now retired Sir Alex Ferguson.
The former Everton boss has reportedly identified centre midfield as a position in urgent need of reinforcement following the retirement of Paul Scholes, the inconsistent form of Brazilian midfielder Anderson and the ongoing injury problems of Scotland star Darren Fletcher.
Barcelona are reportedly willing to listen to bids for Fabregas as the Spaniard has failed to make much of an impact of the first team since his arrival at the Nou Camp.
United are hoping to tempt Fabregas away from Spain with a bid of £25 million.
ESPN claim that Man United are in discussions with Barcelona over both Fabregas and £18m rated Thiago Alcantara.
