Aston Villa striker lined up by La Liga side.
Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke could be a summer target for Atletico Madrid, who see him as an ideal replacement for Radamel Falcao, according to the Sun.
The Belgian has had a terrific first season in the Premier League, scoring 19 times in 34 appearances and almost single-handedly helping Villa avoid relegation with a series of impressive all-round displays.
After arriving for just £7million from Genk last summer, the 22-year-old could now move to Spain for around £17.5million as the Madrid side seek a striker in the summer transfer window.
Diego Simeone’s side face the imminent exit of star striker Falcao, who appears to be set for a move to big-spending French side Monaco, having been linked with the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Real Madrid for much of the last year.
Several other names have been linked with replacing the free-scoring Colombian, such as Sevilla’s Alvaro Negredo and Manchester United’s Javier Hernandez, though Benteke has now emerged as the club’s top target.
The strong and pacey forward has also attracted interest from the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund, who are all looking at strikers as well as they prepare for next season.
