Three clubs on alert as Villa chooses move to England.
Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool are all hoping to sign Barcelona’s David Villa this summer after the striker confirmed he wants a move to the Premier League, according to the Daily Mirror.
The 31-year-old will be made available for transfer by Barcelona this summer after falling down the pecking order at the club. Despite his lack of games and occasional fitness problems, he is still highly rated as a lethal finisher, and is seen as an ideal solution for the problems upfront for all these teams.
Arsenal are keen to add extra firepower to their forward line after Robin van Persie’s departure last season. Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski were brought in, but the Gunners still lack depth upfront, and reportedly had an offer rejected to sign Villa on loan in January.
Tottenham have been believed to be leading the chase for the Spaniard for the last month or so, as they seek an upgrade on the misfiring pair of Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor. Other strikers such as Leandro Damiao and Jackson Martinez have also been linked with moves to White Hart Lane.
Liverpool may now be stepping up their interest in Villa due to the apparent desire of Luis Suarez to leave the club for Real Madrid. The Reds have also been monitoring Barca starlet Cristian Tello, and could use Pepe Reina as a negotiation tool as the Catalans seek a replacement for the departing Victor Valdes.
Despite being in and out of the team for much of this season, Villa still managed 15 goals in all competitions for Barcelona.
