Sunderland goalkeeper could be set for move to Anfield.
Liverpool are preparing to make a move for Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet according to The Guardian.
The Anfield club have been admirers of the Belgian stopper for some time and have identified Mignolet as the perfect man to replace Pepe Reina, should the Spaniard leave for Barcelona.
Reina has been strongly linked with the Catalan giants as they look to find a replacement for the out-bound Victor Valdes.
Valdes revealed last week that he will see out the final year of his contract at the Nou Camp, despite having previously declared his intention to leave this summer, throwing Reina’s short-term future into doubt.
It is thought that Liverpool are now ready to push ahead with plans to sign his replacement regardless of the timing of Reina’s move to Spain.
Mignolet has just completed a highly impressive season for Sunderland, where his impressive performances won his side a number of vital points as they looked to ensure their Premier League survival.
But Mignolet feels he needs to move to a bigger club as he looks to re-establish himself as his country’s first choice goalkeeper.
Mignolet recently lost the gloves to Chelsea youngster Thibault Courtois and is desperate to regain the number one spot before next summer World Cup.
