Etihad Stadium centre-back linked with surprise interest from the Nou Camp.
Barcelona are keen to strengthen their defence and Spanish source Marca claims that Man City centre-back Joleon Lescott is a surprise inclusion on their list of potential targets this summer.
The experienced England defender has been forced out of the Man City first team due to the good form shown by young Serbian Matija Nastasi?, who was seen as the ideal partner of choice to Vincent Kompany by Roberto Mancini last term, therefore a move to the Nou Camp is fairly hard to fathom.
Lescott was a pivotal member of Man City’s Premier League title winning side, making 30 starts in 2011/12, but that total dipped to 17 last term and though Kolo Toure has now left to join Liverpool one does wonder what the future holds for the former Everton man at the Etihad Stadium.
Other, perhaps more likely, targets in the Marca article include Arsenal’s Thomas Vermaelen, Chelsea pair David Luiz and Branislav Ivanovic, Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels and PSG centre-back Thiago Silva.
Tito Vilanova has a host of attacking options but certainly needs alternatives at the back, Javier Mascherano having repeatedly been used in a makeshift role with Carles Puyol & Gerard Pique being the club’s first choice pairing.
