Liverpool striker Andy Carroll has been priced out of a return to Newcastle United after they refused to meet the Merseysiders asking price, The Express reports.

The 24-year-old is currently on holiday in the United States and is thinking over a permanent switch to West Ham United where he has just spent the season on loan.

A fee on £15 million has been agreed between Liverpool and West Ham – £20 million less that what the Reds originally paid for him, as Brendan Rodgers looks to bank the cash and push on with his own transfer plans.

However, Caroll, who has demanded £100,000 a week in wages, is said to be stalling on confirming the switch in the hope that Newcastle will swoop in at the 11th hour to bring him back home.

Magpies boss Alan Pardew wants to pair Carroll next to Papiss Cisse but he has told Liverpool that he can offer no more than £10 million. Liverpool had been hoping to force their hand by using the negotiations with the Hammers as a bargaining chip but so far Pardew has refused to budge.

Carroll even claimed that he would drop his wage demands if Liverpool dropped the asking price but that didn’t work either but he is keen to move away from the club in order to secure a place with the England national team ahead of next year’s World Cup.
