Sevilla midfielder Ivan Rakitic has admitted he is flattered to hear of interest in him from Premier League giants Liverpool, according to Sky Sports.

The 25-year-old has been in fine form for the Spanish side this season, scoring 8 goals and providing 10 assists in La Liga, drawing comparisons with fellow Croatian Luka Modric.

Liverpool had been said to be offering £12million for the player, who has now admitted he could be tempted with a move away from the club after they finished in a disappointing 9th place in the Spanish league.

Although he admits he knows of no concrete offer at the moment, he has called on Sevilla to strengthen this summer. Following the sale of star winger Jesus Navas to Manchester City, they could have money to reinvest in their squad, and Rakitic hopes they will show some ambition in the transfer market.

“I’m really flattered that I’m being linked with such a big club like Liverpool,” Rakitic said.

“I heard that something is happening, but for now there is no concrete offer.

“My brother, who is taking care of my career, is doing all the business about my future.

“But I will repeat what I said before: I will only stay at Sevilla if they will strengthen the team. I made it quite clear about that and they know that they have to buy some good players.”

Liverpool are keen to improve on their midfield this summer, after a disappointing campaign from £15million signing Joe Allen, who has been linked with a summer move to Cardiff City.

The Reds have also been considering a move for Wigan midfielder James McCarthy, who should be available following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.
