Liverpool have officially confirmed the signing of Celta Vigo striker Iago Aspas pending documentation being completed.

The 25 year old Spaniard will offer Brendan Rodgers with a further attacking option that he could well need given that Luis Suarez is suspended for the first six matches of 2013/14 and Daniel Sturridge is currently out with an injury sustained whilst on international duty.

Aspas netted 23 goals to help his side secure promotion to the La Liga and then finished last term as the club’s top-scorer, netting a dozen goals and providing the all important assist that led to Celta Vigo securing a narrow win over Espanyol that saw the club avoid relegation.

Aspas Goodbye

Indeed Aspas was directly involved in over 50% of all goals Celta Vigo managed last season and is a player Liverpool have forked out £7.6m to sign.

The adaptable attacker can play either out wide or in a central striking role and is Rodgers second signing of the summer, joining Kolo Toure who earlier this month on a free transfer from Man City.
