Inter Milan defender Walter Samuel is set to repay the good faith shown in him by the club by signing a new one-year extension to his current deal, Sky Sports reports.

The 35-year-old became the second Argentine defender to commit his short term future to the club after talismanic stopper Javier Zanetti signed a new deal earlier this week.

Samuel signed for the Italian giants in 2005 from Spanish side Real Madrid, but has seen injuries curtail his career in Milan and he has made just over 220 appearances in the eight years he’s been there.

However, he remains grateful to the club for sticking with him through his injury troubles and is delighted to sign the new deal.

“I’m very happy to have renewed my contract for another year,” he told the club’s official website.

He is also hoping to be able to play a regular part in the upcoming season and help the side recover from their disastrous ninth placed finish last term.

“Along with my team-mates, I hope I can give Inter a positive year and repay the club for the faith they’ve shown, since they still believe in me,” he added.

Samuel has also previously played for Roma and Argentine giants Boca Juniors.
