Tottenham appear to be edging closer to securing a deal to sign experienced Spanish striker David Villa with Goal.com stating that the Barcelona forward had agreed terms with the North London club ahead of a likely move to White Hart Lane this summer.

Andre Villas-Boas is said to have spoken to Villa to ascertain his willingness to move to Tottenham and has been given the encouragement he needed to offer personal terms which the World Cup winner has seemingly agreed.

Tottenham are ready to pay £8m for the 31 year old but Barcelona are looking to garner at least £12m from the sale of a player who is now something of a bit-part player at the Nou Camp.

Villas-Boas is keen to strengthen his attack having seen Emmanuel Adebayor fail to make an impact last term and could also feel the need to replace England man Jermain Defore, who hit a poor run of form in the second half of 2012/13.

Tottenham have already agreed a deal to sign Brazilian Paulinho, with a move likely to be completed after the Confederations Cup.

David Villa made just 17 La Liga starts last term but still managed to net ten goals as well as provide five assists.
