Anfield side back in for Schalke defender.
Liverpool have revived their interest in Schalke defender Kyriakos Papadopolous, according to the Daily Mirror.
It’s understood that the Reds are preparing a bid in excess of £12million for the Greek international defender, as they prepare for a summer raid for defender Martin Skrtel, who is a target for big-spending Italian side Napoli. After injury worries were blown away, the 21-year old defender is sure he will complete any pending medical, and is ready for the next step.
Arsenal and Manchester United are both reportedly keen on the young star, but Liverpool are the first team to have submitted a formal offer, with Greek reports coming out today that the Reds have made a bid, believed to be in the region of £14million for Papadopolous, however, the German club are looking for a fee of around £20million.
Seen as a potential replacement for Martin Skrtel, who has been linked with a move to Napoli this summer, along with the largely ineffectual signing of Sebastien Coates, Brendan Rodgers is on the look-out for a long term part for Danish star Daniel Agger, who is unfortunately injury prone also.
Rodgers is looking to sign one more defender, having failed in a bid to sign Tiago Ilori from Sporting already this summer. They have also identified Aly Cissokho as a rival for Jose Enrique at left-back going forward, in order to boost competition and improve play. A £4million is being discussed with Valencia.
