Jose Mourinho has claimed that midfielder Juan Mata is part of his plans for next season and suggested that the player would be employed in a new position under him, Sky Sports reports.

Reports had suggested that Chelsea were considering selling the midfielder, who has become a fans favourite at Stamford Bridge ever since he arrived from Valencia two years ago.

Barcelona were reported to be ready to make a bid for the midfielder if Chelsea had any intension of selling but Jose Mourinho claims that Mata will have a role to play in his team next season.

“Of course he fits into my plans,” Mourinho said. “I have my idea about him, about where he produces better and where he has more difficulty.

“We will try to help him perform better in those situations. I’ve always liked a right-sided player to be left-footed.

“I started with (Arjen) Robben and (Damien) Duff, then (Goran) Pandev at Inter, and (Angel) Di Maria and (Mesut) Ozil. Many clubs do it. It’s more than a tendency.

Many Chelsea fans will be relieved that Mourinho has no plans to sell their player of the year and can now look forward to the clubs Premier League campaign with the Portuguese manager back at the helm.
