Redknapp swoops for former Hammer.
QPR have reportedly agreed a deal to sign axed West Ham midfielder Gary O’Neil, Sky Sports reports.
The 30-year-old will join move across the city to the Loftus Road outfit as a free agent after being released by the Hammers at the end of last season and is likely to go straight into the squad in a bid to help them bounce back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.
O’Neil will also be reunited with Harry Redknapp, having worked under him at Portsmouth where he made over 150 first team appearances between 1999 – 2007. He left Pompey to move north with Middlesbrough and went on to make over 100 appearances for them before heading back down south to pen a two-and-a-half deal at Upton Park.
He saw his chances limited at West Ham, though, making just 20 appearances across all competitions last season, scoring once.
Should his move go ahead as expected he will be following the likes of Danny Simpson, Richard Dunne and Charlie Austin, who have already joined the west London club this summer.
QPR begin their Championship campaign next weekend by hosting Sheffield Wednesday, though it is not know whether any of the side’s higher paid stars will be available for selection.
