Having returned to Selhurst Park in January, having represented the Eagles as a player from 1987 to 1991, Pardew has helped to steer the South London side clear of the relegation zone and is now looking to strengthen his squad in the summer.

25 year old England hopeful Austin has been in superb form, his tally of 17 Premier League goals is all the more impressive when you consider his QPR side are in the relegation mire, and one imagines the former Burnley man will not want to be playing outside the top tier next term.

A host of clubs are reportedly keen on Austin, including Liverpool and Chelsea (Via the Metro), so on the face of it a move to Crystal Palace may not seem quite as enticing.

However a move to Palace would presumably give Austin a far better chance of guaranteed regular first team action and that may be the key motivation for the QPR man at this stage of his career
