A Source spills the beans on the plan for India’s footballing future

Kick off India.com have been given exclusive information on the new IPL style tournament.

It will run from January 18th to March 30th, with eight franchises based in major cities across the country, each side will play a total of fourteen group games, 7 home and 7 away.

The top four groups go into the semi finals and it proceeds like a normal tournament. From next year the tournament will run either before or after, rather than during the I-league season.

it is now however, that the tournament begins to differ, there is a maximum number of 22 players per team, 10 foreigners and eight Indian players all of whom have to be bidded for at an auction,

Teams may bid for a maximum of two marquee players (Foreign players who were once once on the top of their game).

Each side must also have four U23 players which can be scouted individually

The idea is to create franchises rather than teams, like the IPL. it has also been revealed that the new tournament will not have ‘league’ in the name.

The source said: ” the tournament name is yet to be decided but the word ‘league’ won’t be their in the title name. This would be a tournament, not a league. I-League will stay India’s premier league
