New Barcelona coach Gerardo Martino has said that Cesc Fabregas will not be leaving the club this summer, but has also denied that they have made an approach for Chelsea’s David Luiz Sky Sports reports.

Earlier this week the club’s sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta had claimed that Manchester United had finally admitted defeat in their pursuit of the former Arsenal man after have two massive bids turned down.

Martino had previously admitted that he would leave the decision on whether to stay or leave up to the player himself, though he has now quickly suggested that a move would be out of the question.

Fabregas stated the club’s 7-1 win over Thailand this week and after the game Martino admitted to sweating on the fitness of his captain, Carles Puyol, more than whether Fabregas would decide to stick around for the coming season.

“Cesc Fabregas is staying with us. He will be staying with us for the rest of the year,” Martino said.

“Right now I’m more worried about whether Puyol will recover.”

The rapidly declining state of the 35-year-old Catalan defender has made buying a centre-back one of the club’s priorities this summer, and it is understood that a bid has been made for Luiz.

However, Martino refused to shed any light on a possible move for the Brazilian.

“No, I do not know anything about it. I’m here (in Thailand) – but I don’t know anything about David Luiz.”
