Liverpool’s pursuit of defensive reinforcements has taken Brendan Rodgers to the Allianz Arena and a loan move for young German Diego Contento according to the Metro.
Though Liverpool can call upon England international pair Glen Johnson and Martin Kelly to fill the right-back berth the Anfield boss is not so resplendent with options on the left hand side of defence and is keen to bring in an alternative to Spaniard Jose Enrique.
The former Newcastle United man has had an up and down time of it since leaving St James’ Park and though Rodgers can use both Daniel Agger and Glen Johnson as makeshift back-up options Rodgers is keen to bring in a ready made replacement should one be needed.
Contento graduated via the Bavarian side’s youth team to the Bayern Munich first team set-up but hasn’t had much of a look-in due to the emergence and excellence of young Swiss international David Alaba and the 23 year old has therefore only managed nine Bundesliga starts in the course of the last two seasons.
A move to Liverpool could well be of interest to the local born defender and Pep Guardiola may well be amenable to such a deal as it gives a player with undoubted potential the chance to get some senior football under his belt.
