Reds given fresh hope in landing starlet defender.
Liverpool have been given fresh hope in landing Sporting Lisbon’s defensive starlet Tiago Ilori refused to sign a new deal with the club, the Mirror reports.
Manager Brendan Rodgers had been in for the 20-year-old earlier in the summer, but had seen a £3 million bid thwarted by the Portuguese side, who were demanding at least double that before they allowed him to talk with another club.
However, the player’s refusal to sign a new deal with the club has alerted Liverpool who are now preparing to return with a fresh offer in the hope that Sporting will now be willing to cash in on him rather than lose him for nothing later on.
Liverpool representatives were at Sporting’s 5-1 home win over Arouca on Sunday, though Ilori did not feature, and it is understood that further discussions have been held between the clubs.
Meanwhile, French full back Aly Cissokho was due to have his medical on Merseyside on Monday ahead of completing his season-long loan move from Spanish giants Valencia.
Rodgers is eyeing competition for Jose Enrique in the left back slot, and Liverpool have the option to sign the 25-year-old permanently for around £4 million next summer.
