Merseyside rivals Liverpool and Everton look set to miss out on the signing of Juventus striker Alessandro Matri, with talkSPORT claiming he will join AC Milan.

The 29-year-old has been with Juve for the last three seasons, though he has not always been a regular starter for the Serie A giants, and seemed a likely candidate to be sold by the club this summer.

Matri’s place has come under further threat in this transfer window, with Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente both joining as major additions upfront for Antonio Conte’s side.

This attracted some interest from England, with Premier League pair Liverpool and Everton believed to be keen on signing the Italian international, who can also play as a winger.

However, Matri has opted to stay in Italy by rejoining AC Milan, the club where he started his career.

This will leave both teams to reignite their interest in taking Chelsea forward Victor Moses on loan for the season, as the Nigerian could also be available due to his status as a backup player at Stamford Bridge.

Juventus, meanwhile, could also offload another backup forward Fabio Quagliarella, who is a target for West Ham.
