Anfield defender on Rafa Benitez’s radar.
Having successfully lured Anfield keeper Pepe Reina to the San Paolo for Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez will look to bring in another of his former charges in January.
talkSPORT claim that Napoli will renew their interest in Slovakian international Martin Skrtel, a move that Brendan Rodgers may well look to fight off.
It had appeared that Skrtel was not part of Rodgers’ first team plans, having been frozen out of his starting eleven for much of the second half of last term, but early season injuries suffered by Kolo Toure and Glen Johnson have led to the Liverpool boss re-shuffling his defensive pack.
Skrtel has therefore started the last three Premier League fixtures and performed well but given that Rodgers has signed Tiago Ilori and Mamadou Sakho over the summer it is plausible that for the right amount of money Liverpool could consider selling the former Spartak Moscow man.
This source claims that Liverpool will demand over £10m for the 28 year old and that may be a fee that Benitez is ready to splash.
Benitez has seen his Napoli side start the season in emphatic fashion, racking up four wins in four, and now sit joint top of the Serie A table.
Skrtel has made a total of 209 appearances for Liverpool since joining the club in £6.5m deal back in January 2008.
