Liverpool and Napoli are reportedly monitoring the situation of Barcelona right-back Martin Montoya after it emerged that contract talks between himself and the Catalan giants broke down, according to Inside Futbol.

The 22-year-old has been linked several times with an exit from the Nou Camp in recent months as he is supposedly keen to become a first-team regular elsewhere, with his path to a starting place at Barcelona currently blocked by Brazilian international Dani Alves.

Arsenal are one of the other teams mentioned as admirers of the youngster, and a move to England could be on the cards if Liverpool step up their interest in the Spaniard.

Montoya has been at Barcelona for his entire career so far, but has only managed to make 37 appearances for the club’s first-team in the last four seasons since making his debut for the senior side.

Napoli, managed by Rafael Benitez, are keen to add to their growing Spanish contingent at the club, and Montoya could be tempted to team up with the likes of Jose Callejon, Pepe Reina and Raul Albiol in Naples.

However, he will likely have plenty of clubs to choose from if he does decide to leave Barca at the end of his contract next summer.
