Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has revenge on his mind this weekend as his side take on Liverpool at St James’ Park, according to Sky Sports.

The Magpies boss admits last season’s fixture against the Reds was one of his worst results as manager of the club, in a highly disappointing performance that resulted in an incredible 6-0 loss at home to Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Liverpool have started this season in fine form again, but Pardew is hoping to atone for last season’s nightmare result with an improved display this time.

“It was one of my worst days as Newcastle boss, for sure. It’s happened to bigger and better managers than me though – Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger, they’ve all had those days, too,” he said.

“If there isn’t an extra bit of fire in the bellies of some of our players this weekend, then there’ll be something wrong.

“There’ll be quite a few players playing who played on that day, and I’d be disappointed if they don’t respond. That’s what you like to see.

“I certainly want to get a result more than in most games that we play.”
