Liverpool are reportedly one of a number of clubs expected to make a move for Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye in the January transfer window according to the Northern Echo.

Cabaye was the subject of a summer bid from Arsenal, said to be in the region of £12m, which was turned down by the Magpies but which resulted in the 27 year old angering the club by going on strike as he looked to force Newcastle United’s hand on the issue.

The cultured midfielder has since apologized for his stance and has been in fine form in recent weeks, playing a pivotal role in the club’s recent win over Chelsea.

As well as interest from Arsenal Cabaye’s former Lille boss, Rudi Garcia, is keen to lure the French international to top of the table Roma, who have been in imperious form in Serie A this term.

Newcastle United are thought to be ready to consider offers of around £18m-£20m and one wonders if Brendan Rodgers is willing to make such an offer in January.

Cabaye would offer Rodgers a fresh midfield dimension and could perhaps be the injection of quality that would help in the club’s pursuit of a coveted Champions League spot.
