CaughtOffside understands that Rodgers is ready to make an offer of around £8m for the Welsh international as he seeks to strengthen his defensive options.

20 year old left-back Davies is considered one of the best young talents plying their trade in the Premier League and Rodgers will look to bring in the Liberty Stadium regular to help resolve issues he has on the left flank of his defence.

Rodgers has been without first choice left-back Jose Enrique since early November with a knee injury and has used various players to fill the void with loaned in Valencia man Aly Cissokho being an inconsistent back-up performer and youngster John Flanagan impressing during his brief stint in the first team set-up.

The likes of Momadou Sakho and Glen Johnson have also filled in but Brendan Rodgers will look to Davies as a long term option, a player the Northern Irish boss knows well from his time in charge at Swansea City, the Neath born defender having been a player turning heads in the reserves and youth team set-ups prior to Rodgers move to take over as Liverpool manager.

Rodgers has previously successfully moved to bring in Joe Allen from Swansea City and Davies may feel that a move to Liverpool as a tempting prospect given their continued push for a Champions League berth, especially with Michael Laudrup’s inconsistent side sitting just three points from the relegation zone having collected one win in their last nine Premier League fixtures.

Davies has been a virtual ever present since breaking into the Swansea City first team back in August 2012 and has made a total of 67 appearances for the Swans.
