The 33 year old Stamford Bridge star will be out of contract in the summer and is unlikely to be offered a new deal and Brendan Rodgers is keen to usher the former Arsenal man to Anfield by offering the England man a one year contract.
Rodgers has turned to loaned in left-back Aly Cissokho during Jose Enrique’s long injury lay-off and wants Cole to fill the slot next term.
Cole has been frozen out of first team action at Chelsea, starting just 12 Premier League fixtures this season, with Mourinho opting to use Cesar Azpilicueta as his first choice left-back and the experienced full-back is sure to have no shortage of offers in the summer.
One imagines that Liverpool’s chances of signing Cole will be greatly improved if they can secure a top four finish.
Ashley Cole moved to Chelsea in a highly contentious switch from Arsenal back in August 2006 and has made 332 appearances for the club.
