Etihad Stadium side fight Old Trafford rivals for FC Porto defender.
Man City will look to defeat local rivals Man United in the chase to sign FC Porto defender Eliaqium Mangala according to the Daily Mail.
The Etihad Stadium side are keen to bring in the rock solid 22 year year old French international and are ready to fork out the £31m to meet the Primeira Liga side’s valuation, an offer that could well scare off their near neighbours.
Manuel Pellegrini is keen to bring in Mangala to partner captain Vincent Kompany at the heart of the City defence with veteran Martin Dimichelis looking error prone and youngster Matija Nastastic perhaps too raw for a regular first team spot.
Joleon Lescott is expected to leave Man City in the summer, hence the very real need for a fresh central defensive option.
Man United’s need is perhaps even greater given that both Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand are out of contract in the summer.
Mangala has helped FC Porto to back to back domestic titles in his two completed seasons at the Portuguese club and is likely to be part of Didier Deschamps 2014 World Cup finals squad.
