La Liga giants to move for Porto star.
Spanish champions Barcelona are looking to stump Premier League big guns Manchester City and Manchester United to the signature of FC Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala this summer after it emerged that veteran stopper Carles Puyol signalled his intention to leave the club at the end of the season, according to talkSPORT.
Legendary stopper Puyol, 35, has been with the club since 1995 and has gone on to become on of the side’s most successful defenders ever, but over recent years he has been dogged by a number of injury concerns, and source in Spain are claiming that he is ready to hang up his boots this summer.
Barca have been weighing up potential replacements for some time with the likes of Chelsea’s David Luiz and PSG’s Thiago Silva both being tipped as favourites to take over.
The club are aware that they need to bring in a player that will be ready to slot into the starting XI as soon as he arrives and it is now the France international that is being lauded as the most feasible target.
And any move would scupper both City and United’s chances of landing him after the English pair had expressed their own interest at various points of the season.
