The speedy attacker, who can operate either on the flanks or in a more central position, is currently back in France with Montpellier on a short term loan deal until the end of the season after falling out of favour at the San Siro.
Liverpool’s scouting team had been watching him during his breakthrough season in Italy last year and have continued to keep an eye on him in France, but sources close to the Anfield club’s hierarchy have claimed that Brendan Rodgers will not be looking to make a move for his this summer and will peruse other targets instead.
Niang had originally caught the attention of some of Europe’s top clubs during his initial spell in France with Caen, where he steadily climbed the ranks of France’s international youth system all the way up to the under-21s.
Milan were the club to win the race for his services and he took to life in Serie A immediately when he scored against Reggina to become the club’s youngest ever goalscorer at 17 years and 350 days.
