The Reds travel to Old Trafford on Sunday with the intention of opening up a 14-point gap ahead of their arch-rivals.
Liverpool’s rise back up the table this term has largely been down to the good form of striker Luis Suarez, who has bagged himself 24 goals already, and Rooney believes that the Uruguayan is amongst one of the best players in the world right now.
“Suarez, for me, is up there with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as one of the best players in the world,” he told MUTV.
“He has been that good and the two of them together [Suarez and Daniel Sturridge] have been in great form this season. We will have to do everything we can to stop them on Sunday.
“I think they are both fantastic players and obviously it is good to see Sturridge doing well because he has never really had a chance at his previous clubs.
“Brendan Rodgers has given him a chance and he has taken it with both hands. That is good for England as well.”
Rooney has been in good form himself this term, notching up 11 goals and 10 assists in 21 appearances this term, and even put pen-to-paper on a new deal to keep him at Old Trafford earlier on in the year.
