Nou Camp side want Stamford Bridge fan favourite.
Barcelona has identified David Luiz as a replacement for veteran Carles Puyol according to Football Direct News.
The Nou Camp side will see Puyol leave the club this summer with German international Mats Hummels and FC Porto youngster Eliaqium Mangala also on the La Liga side’s wish-list.
26 year old Brazilian Luiz has struggled to retain a foothold in Jose Mourinho’s starting eleven with the Blues boss opting to use John Terry and Gary Cahill as his first choice central defensive pairing though the Portuguese manager did use the former Benfica man in a defensive midfielder role against Arsenal in their 6-0 win yesterday.
Mourinho may be ready to listen to big money offers for Luiz, who has started just 14 of Chelsea’s 31 Premier League fixtures so could be seen as expendable.
The Chelsea boss has shown his willingness to cash-in on star performers who he feels are not crucial to his long term plans, as evidenced by Juan Mata’s sale to Man United, and if Barcelona offer £25m+ then the West London side could well take the money and run.
