The Spanish side’s president Jose Castro re-affirmed that Rakitic was happy with life in Seville on Monday and said that the Croatian midfielder had signalled his desire to remain at the club
However, a planned meeting between Castro and Rakitic’s agent on Tuesday didn’t go as according to plan for the club and the news has once again opened the door for Liverpool to make another move for the 27-year-old midfielder.
Rakitic has been in phenomenal form for the Andalusian side this term scoring 12 and creating 12 in his 29 La Liga appearances and his form has gained interest from the likes of Juventus, Real Madrid and the aforementioned Liverpool.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is eager to add some substantial quality and depth to his squad next season and has identified Rakitic as the perfect player to contribute to his midfield.
Rodgers will now look to take advantage of the Croatian’s contract situation by making a final push for fresh talks before moving on to new targets.
