Moyes is almost certain to see out the remainder of his disastrous first season at Old Trafford but, with £200m to spend this summer, the club are unsure if the Scot is the right man to spend the cash and lead the club forward.
The Old Trafford outfit have reportedly held talks with Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal but Klopp is understood to their first choice.
The 46-year-old led Dortmund to back-to-back Bundesliga titles, before losing last year’s Champions League final to Bayern Munich.
The German is also wanted by Barcelona, while Tottenham and Arsenal are said to be admirers.
However, Klopp signed a new deal with Dortmund in October 2013 which expires in 2018 and he has stressed he will see out the contract.
