Chelsea are ready to step-up their interest in Atletico Madrid goal machine Diego Costa with Jose Mourinho looking to tempt the La Liga side into a sale with the aid of two of his young talents as bait.

The Daily Star claim Mourinho will offer £24m rated striker Romelu Lukaku in part exchange for 25 year old Costa, who is said to have a £32m release clause.

However Vicente Calderon boss Diego Simeone also wants to secure loaned in keeper Thibaut Courtois on another season long deal next term as part of any move for the Brazilian born Spanish international, a deal that Mourinho may well be happy to agree to given his continued use of Petr Cech as his starting custodian.

Costa bagged his 27th La Liga goal during a crucial win over Elche on Friday night and his displays have been key in Atletico Madrid’s continued push for a domestic title. The former Real Valladolid has also proved more than able in Champions League action, his seven goals in six appearances playing their part in the club’s run to the semi-finals, where they will of course meet Chelsea.

It seems likely that Mourinho would consider the use of Lukaku in a swap deal with the Portuguese boss opting, perhaps mistakenly, to loan out the Belgian who has easily outscored the likes of Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba during his successful stint at Goodison Park.
