The Premier League champions parted company with the Scot on Tuesday morning just ten months after Moyes took on the role at the Theatre of Dreams on a bumper six-year contract.

However, after a disastrous set of results so far in this campaign which have seen the Red Devils fail to finish the season in the top four of the Premier League, and so meaning no Uefa Champions League football at the club for the first time since 1995, the former Everton manager was given his marching orders.

And now it is understood that Joel Glazer, who speaks to United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward on a daily basis, will jet in to Manchester from the US on Friday to begin the process of selecting Moyes’s successor, with the club’s owners said to be keen to take on a more hands-on role in recruiting the new United trainer than they did when allowing Sir Alex Ferguson to select Moyes this time last year.
