The 24 year old England international is said to be frustrated at the lack of first team action he’s received and is said to be unsettled at Old Trafford and Arsenal have joined Tottenham in pursuit of the £20m rated striker.
Welbeck may have leapfrogged Javier Hernandez in the Man United pecking order but is still behind Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney and despite this season being his most prolific the locally born attacker has made just 14 Premier League starts this season, still managing to score nine times in the process.
Wenger has been overly reliant on Olivier Giroud for an end product, chiefly because both Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott has missed big chunks of the season with injury, and the Gunners boss apparently sees Welbeck as an improvement on the big Frenchman.
Giroud has come in for a fair amount of criticism this term but no outfield Arsenal player has started more Premier League games than the former Montpellier man and to be fair to the 27 year old, he has still managed to score 20 goals in all competitions.
