Liverpool are readying a move for Tottenham youngster Christian Eriksen having failed in their push to sign the Danish international last summer.

Rodgers is set to receive significant transfer funds to invest in his squad and will offer Spurs chairman Daniel Levy the chance to double his investment with Liverpool prepared to make a £22m bid for the in-form playmaker.

Eriksen has proven a big success since moving to north London, arguably the only one of seven new signings to have delivered the goods this term, but Tottenham’s failure to secure a Champions League berth could well leave the attacker open to a move to Liverpool.

Brendan Rodgers sees Eriksen as the ideal long term replacement for Steven Gerrard and hopes to make the Tottenham man one of a number of summer signings that can help his side mount a genuine Premier League push next term as well as looking to put Liverpool back on the European football map with a strong showing on their Champions League return.

The Liverpool manager is keen to ‘kick on’ after an excellent campaign and the club’s American owners are ready to back-up the Northern Irishman with as much as £80m being made available for new signings and will offer the former Swansea City boss a new long term contract as a show of their faith in his ability to lead the Merseyside outfit in the long term.

Eriksen has weighed in with seven goals and eight assists in 22 Premier League starts this term.
