Chelsea are ready to mount an audacious swoop for Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho as a potential replacement for Blues star Oscar according to Football Direct News.

The 21 year old Brazilian has been in outstanding form this term though failed to make it into Felipe Scolari’s 2014 World Cup squad and is now seen as a viable option for Mourinho should he fail to prevent Oscar leaving Stamford Bridge this summer.

PSG are thought to be tracking Oscar though he would surely be a player Mourinho would fight tooth and nail to keep hold of.

Coutinho has matured into a very effective performer over the past 12 months and his move to Anfield comes after a period of stagnation at Inter Milan.

Brendan Rodgers has gotten the most out of the young playmaker and clearly sees Coutinho as part of his long term plans and there appears little reason for the Liverpool man to consider leaving the Merseyside club any time soon.

Having secured a return to the Champions League and mounted a genuine Premier League title push this term one would imagine Coutinho would be keen to remain at the club as they look to push on next season.

Coutinho cost Liverpool £8.5m back in January 2013 and he has scored eight goals and provided 12 assists in 46 Premier League appearances for the club.
