South American’s buyout clause will remain at £200m.
La Liga champions FC Barcelona are set to shortly announce that star man Lionel Messi has agreed to put pen to paper on a new bumper deal at Camp Nou that will now tie the player to the club until the summer of 2018, according to reports in the Daily Mail.
The brilliant Argentina international’s father and agent has been busy conducting face-to-face talks with Barca officials for the past few weeks now.
However, it is now understood that those negotiations have finally come to a conclusion, with an announcement on the matter expected to be made before the club’s crucial final league game of the season at home to leaders Atletico Madrid on Saturday evening in order to give everyone associated with the club a huge lift going into their must-win showdown with Diego Simeone’s outfit.
And now after the last round of talks with Barcelona directors Javier Faus and Antoni Rossich, it will be announced that Messi has agreed to stay in Catalonia until 2018, with the 26-year-old’s salary set to rise to a whopping £15.5m NET in order to take him ahead of rival Cristiano Ronaldo who earns £15m net at Real Madrid.
