Liverpool could lose the race to sign Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana with Tottenham’s chances of landing the England man likely to increase if the north London side successfully tempt Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino to fill the White Hart Lane hot-seat according to the Daily Express.

The 25 year old St Mary’s playmaker had looked likely to move to Anfield, though there has been a gap between the price Liverpool are willing to pay and how much the south-coast side demand, but Lallana could perhaps be persuaded to follow his Argentine boss to Tottenham instead.

If Pochettino does move to Tottenham then he would no doubt be handed a significant transfer war-chest and is clearly going to be attracted by the possibility of bringing in one or two of his Southampton charges.

Chairman Daniel Levy may have forked out over £110m on new signings last summer but knows that another managerial appointment would result in fresh additions, though perhaps partially funded by inevitable exits, and any side chasing Lallana would look to secure a deal before the World Cup finals where clearly his valuation could increase significantly if he produces the goods.

Lallana is into his eighth season in the Southampton first team set-up and has netted 60 goals in 265 appearances for the club.
