The tough tackling enforcer missed much of the season with injury and may struggle to make Liverpool’s starting eleven with both Jordan Henderson and Joe Allen now ahead of the 27 year old in the midfield pecking order and therefore a move to the San Siro could well tempt Lucas.
The player himself has spoken publicly of a possible move to Italy though was quick to reiterate that no formal bid had been made for his services.
“I can say that at the moment I have received no offers,”
“So I can’t say there is a chance of me going to Inter, because I am under contract at Liverpool. Serie A definitely is a great league though.”
Lucas appears happy to speculate on the possibility of teaming up with national team colleague Hernanes,
“Us playing together one day? I have known Hernanes for a long time and we have already played together many times at international level.
“He is a fantastic player and a wonderful person.”
Lucas has completed seven seasons at Liverpool and may well be a player Rodgers considers cashing in on as part of a squad overhaul.
