Barcelona, following manager Tata Martino’s departure, have confirmed the arrival of Luis Enrique as the new boss, reports BBC Sport.
They’ve also agreed terms with Lionel Messi over a ludicrous new contract, and signed young German stopper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen.
The 44-year-old manager Enrique has signed a two year deal, and will hope to right Barca’s trophyless season which has just come to an end – after the side failed to beat Atletico Madrid on the final day of the term, which would have sealed La Liga victory.
Enrique led Celta Vigo to 9th place last term, but has been targeted by Barcelona because of his Nou Camp playing career, and his close links with Sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta.
Argentine sensation Messi’s new deal will once again make him the world’s highest paid player. The 26-year-old four time Ballon D’or winner has signed a £16.3m deal with the club he’s already established a reputation as an all-time great.
Barca have also confirmed the capture of Ter Stegen, a 22-year-old goalkeeper, who will replace the outgoing Victor Valdes, whose contract expires this summer.
Ter Stegen has made international appearances for his country, but was surprisingly left out of this summer’s World Cup squad.
