The Reds are already said to be closing in on a move to bring England international midfielder Adam Lallana to the club in a £25m deal and now Brendan Rodgers is ready to add Saints full-back Nathaniel Clyne to the deal, who is valued at around £15m.
Clyne, 23, is seen as a potential replacement for Glen Johnson, 29, whose long-term future at Liverpool is in doubt due to a contract wrangle.
Rodgers believes the former Crystal Palace star would be the ideal replacement for Johnson due to his pace and attacking prowess, while Lallana is already expecting to be a Liverpool player by the start of the season in August.
The news may come as a blow to Southampton fans as the club could also be set to lose Luke Shaw to Manchester United as their young squad continue to be harvested.
Lallana and Shaw are in England’s World Cup squad and boss Roy Hodgson has repeated that he doesn’t want his preparations for Brazil disrupted by any transfer business.
