Central defender is now out of contract.
Queens Park Rangers head coach Harry Redknapp wants to make former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand one of his first signings now that the west London club have won promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, according to reports in the Daily Express.
The west Londoners overcame Derby County 1-0 in the Championship play-off final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday afternoon thanks to a dramatic late winner from front man Bobby Zamora, and all this despite the fact that QPR had to play the final half an hour of the contest with only 10 men following the sending off of midfielder Gary O’Neil.
However, now that the veteran former West ham United, Portsmouth and Tottenham Hotspur boss has managed to guide the club straight back up to the promised land of the Premier League, and all the riches that entails, Redknapp can now start planning for next season in the top flight.
And one of the first players that Redknapp is said to be targeting is the former West Ham United and England central defender who has just been released by the Red Devils, with QPR confident of being able to secure Ferdinand on a lucrative free transfer.
