Chelsea want £32m deal sealed before World Cup.

Chelsea are reportedly becoming frustrated at the lack of progress made on their proposed £32m move for Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa, according to BBC Sport.

A deal looks to be in place for the Brazilian-born Spanish international to leave Atletico for a switch to Stamford Bridge this summer, with Chelsea having met the player’s buy-out clause fee of £32m, and with the 25-year-old agreeing personal terms and passing a medical this week.

However, there are still some formalities to be dealt with between the two clubs, and a Chelsea source has been quoted as saying that the club hope to conclude the deal as soon as possible so that Costa can fully concentrate on his performances for Spain at this summer’s World Cup.

“Chelsea look forward to entering into formal transfer documentation with Atletico Madrid as soon as possible so that the player can concentrate on the World Cup,” a club insider explained.

The start of the competition in Brazil is less than a week away now, and the signing of a top-class centre-forward at this stage would represent an important deal for Jose Mourinho’s side, whose lack of options in that department last season arguably cost them the Premier League title as they missed out by just four points, but scoring 31 fewer goals than champions Manchester City.
