Check in to Spain vs Netherlands

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is closing in on his third signing of the summer and will look to balance the books by offloading flop pair Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas according to the Liverpool Echo.

Rodgers has secured deals to sign England veteran Rickie Lambert and German midfielder Emre Can and are said to be edging closer to welcoming young Spanish full-back Alberto Moreno to Anfield and as such it makes sense to clear some deadwood from the Liverpool squad.

Neither Spaniard has impressed since moving to Liverpool last summer though Aspas has perhaps less reason to complain about a likely exit than young midfielder Alberto.

Former Celta Vigo man Aspas looked out of his depth when called upon by Rodgers as a back-up to Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez, failing to score in 14 Premier League appearances.

Luis Alberto impressed for the club’s Under 21 side but wasn’t deemed worthy of a single Premier League start but the duo, who cost Liverpool a combined £14m, could well be on their way and one imagines Rodgers will net less than the sum they paid for their services.
